World Series Final Game Draws 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total over 50 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this marks the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and the network’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
